Yeah I know she'd been around longer than 1988, but I'm only focusing on movies here and that's when her movie came out.
Elvira quit's her job, and inherits a house and other things so she moves to a small New England town where her Great Uncle (she didn't even know she had a GOOD uncle) tries to buy a certain book she inherited from her Great Aunt (she didn't even know she had a GOOD aunt) who turns out to be a witch and the book to be a powerful book of spells.
