For some reason parents have an uncontrollable urge to kill their offspring. Not ALL kids, just their own. Could it be some kind of attack on the country or the entire species! It doesn't matter, your parents will kill you.

Jason Voorhees (again)

First appearance: Friday the 13th part 7: New Blood (in this configuration) (1988)

Part Seven is when Kane Hodder takes over playing Jason. Interesting that he's the fan favourite Jason actor but he's in the movies that the Friday the 13th fans like the least, go figure.

Anyway Jason kills a bunch of people at a cabin on Crystal Lake and fights a psychic. Yet another Voorhees rampage that isn't at Camp Crystal Lake.

Jadon Voorhees

First appearance: Friday the 13th part 2 (1981)

Jason Voorhees isn't all that happy with what happened to his mom last year and decides to do something about it. What? You thought his mom killed all those teens last year because Jason drowned at Camp Crystal Lake? And that was just some kind of nightmare hallucination where he jumped out of the lake? Also wasn't he a little kid in that jump scare thing at the end of the last movie? Shut up. Jason's a full grown weirdo who's been living in the woods and wears a bag on his head covering up his weird face and wonky eye.

Freddy Krueger

First appearance: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Something's killing teens in their sleep in Springwood, U.S.A. Adults don't believe their kids are being stalked and killed in their dreams by the creepy Janitor they incinerated after he escaped legal prosecution for "child killing." Are the kids right? How come none of the parents were arrested for this act of vigilantism? Can you really beat Freddy just by turning your back on him and saying "You have no power over me" like you can with the Goblin King Jareth?

I've always found the Elm St. series a little strange in it's inconsistent tone. The first movie's creepy, the second movie is strange, the third gets a little super heroy, then it tries mixing the super hero action type stuff with creepy, Then Freddy becomes some kind of murderous clown. It's like they really don't know what to do with the concept. That didn't stop Freddy from becoming an instantly recognizable character and house hold name.

This is the second time I've tackled ol' chewing gum face. Looking back through my old Monstar drawings I thought I'd up date a couple of my favourite characters that I think I feel like drawing again.

Father Harry Powell

First appearence: The Night of the Hunter (1955)

Can't believe it took me so long to get around to seeing this movie.
 It's about a homicidal maniac who believes god is telling him to murder widows and bimbos. He ends up being thrown in jail as a car thief, his cellmate is going to be hanged for killing a couple of people during a bank robbery. One night the man who will be hanged talks in his sleep revealing that the money he stole is hidden somewhere and his children know where. After the ersatz preacher is let out of jail he head straight to the bank robber's home town and seduces his wife. Terror and suspense ensue.

The Prowler

First appearance: The Prowler (1981)

Normally I'd put the name of the character in the title of the post but I liked the Red Herrings in the movie so much that I think I'll save the mystery. The movie's another of those slasher movies where there's going to be a big dance in town, this time its a graduation dance, that everyone in town loves, until some people get murdered. The town decides from that moment on there are no more dances. Flash forward 35 years, someone decides its time to have that dance again even though everyone assumes the murdering will start again. Sure enough murdering starts again. Will small towns never learn.
The thing I thought was cool about this one was the WWII angle with the first batch of murders being committed by a Crazy GI back from the war to find his girlfriend has fallen in love with some other guy whom she has taken to her High School (?) graduation dance. He kills them and then disappears. 35 later the killing starts again. I really like the look of the killer in the movie, I think the full combat gear matched with a pitch fork was very striking and new.

Harry Stadling

First Appearance: Cristmas Evil (1980)

As a child, Harry Stadling, sees his mom being groped by Santa Claus scarring him for life and for some reason making him obsessed with Christmas. One night when he's an adult he decides to be the REAL Santa and goes out rewarding good little kids and killing and mutilating those who he believes are naughty.
